Looking for Graduation Photos

Devil Pups and Parents:  I promised you a coffee table book that could be purchased from the blog page.  I am still waiting for photos, but I haven't forgotten my promise.  If any of you have photos you can send, I will then add them to our 2018 photo album and build a book from them.  I'll post here again when it is finished.  The books make great family Christmas gifts.

2018 Thank You Tour

Devil Pups:  We have been invited to breakfast with the Marines of the Utah Dixie Detachment #1270, Marine Corps League, on September 8, Saturday morning, 8:30 a.m., for a free breakfast (for the pup and mom and dad) and a few minutes of their meeting to introduce yourselves and thank them for their support.  The meeting is held at the Elks Lodge located at 630 W. 1250 No, St. George.

We want to thank them for the donation they made to the program and let them see where their fundraising was used.  Please let me know if you and your parents can make this breakfast meeting.  E-mail me at dtoole at sunrivertoday dot com and let me know how many from your family will attend.
The Color Country Chapter of the D.A.R. will also want to host you at one of their upcoming meetings.  I will arrange this meeting with the AFJROTC instructors and let you know when that will be.

16 August 2018 - Devil Pups Awards Night

6:00 p.m.
Thursday 16 August 2018
Pizza Factory in Ancestor Square - in the room upstairs

2018 Devil Pups and families:  Save the date - August 16.  Please meet at Pizza Factory in Ancestor Square in St. George for our annual Devil Pups Awards Night.  Pizza Factory did not have any earlier openings, so we will make the evening as short as possible for students.

The Pizza Factory will furnish an all-you-can-eat buffet of pizza, bread sticks, salad and sodas for only $8 per person.  Children under 5 years of age are free.  (SoUtah Devil Pups will pick up their cost.)  Please come prepared with cash for your family, or if you need to write a check, please make it to Pizza Factory and NOT to Devil Pups.

We will be awarding certificates to all graduating pups, George Class Certificates and ribbons to those involved with a uniform service, such as AFJROTC, and a gift from the staff.  We will start the evening with dinner and move into awards quickly, during dinner, so as to end the evening as soon as possible for students.

DEVIL PUPS:  Please wear your Devil Pup uniform.

Looking forward to seeing you at Pizza Factory!

2018 Devil Pup Candidates are at Camp

I've been informed that the trip went well - lot of kids got naps - and they arrived safely at Camp Pendleton this morning.  By this time they are fast asleep after a long night and their first day at camp.  At this point I don't have any photos and we don't get to take photos during camp, but what I do get I will share with you.  Rest easy - your teens are in the hands of Marines!

It's Time For Camp

Get some rest on Wednesday afternoon - the night is long on the drive to Camp Pendleton and once you arrive, the fun begins.  (Have I mentioned before that there will be Marines yelling in both your ears??)

Remember the plain white T-shirt, jeans, belt and tennies.  Bring along a hoodie for cat naps on the way to camp and for cold mornings by the beach in California.  Remember to put your name on both sides of the bag - and BE ON TIME to get your ride to Camp Pendleton!

Most of all - have fun while at camp.  Enjoy the haircuts (guys) and - did I remember to say there will be yelling? - and do your best for Colonel Toole who might be smiling from Heaven on all of you and who is most certainly urging you to do your best but to have fun in the process.  It's the attitude that counts!  You're almost a Devil Pup!

Here's what you look like at departure . . .

2010 pups getting ready for camp
This is what you should look like at departure on 07-19.  You will be provided with Devil Pups logo shirts, caps and scarves at camp.  We know you will have a very successful camp experience (once you get used to the shouting)!!

SRBs

What are SRB's?  They are Service Record Books, folders with a lot of forms to fill out for camp personnel, giving them everything they need should it become necessary during camp.  These will be inspected immediately upon arrival at Camp Pendleton - the Marines are pretty picky, so get it right!!  Someone will be contacting you about getting them filled out prior to departure.  Bryce and Billion will gather them as they are completed, and each pup will be handed his/her SRB when arriving at Camp Pendleton to turn in during registration.

Once camp is over and the pups have graduated, the folders are shredded.

AGAIN, HERE IS THE PACKING LIST.  (Take ALL these things and do not take anything that isn't on this list.  Your bag contents are checked during registration when you will transfer your belongings into a camp bag.)  Please use a piece of masking tape and print your name with a black marker on each side of your bag for identification purposes.  Sometimes bags are stacked one way, and sometimes the opposite, so ID on both sides is important.  You will need to be able to find your bag immediately after graduation.)

Camp Departure Meeting Place

We will be meeting to depart for Devil Pup camp at the Cinema 6 theater parking lot at 905 S. Main in St. George.  This is behind and across the street from the K-Mart shopping center that backs up on Main Street.  It's just above Exit 6 off the I-15 on Main Street.  Plan to arrive at 0200 (that's 2:00 in the morning civilian time).  THIS IS IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR NIGHT - BETWEEN WEDNESDAY NIGHT  7-18 AND THURSDAY MORNING 7-19!!  Look for the 15 passenger white van.  DO NOT BE LATE!  We will be driving all night to get to Southern California - stopping for a McDonald's-type breakfast which will be paid for by Devil Pup staff.  There will be two or three drivers.  The van arrives at Camp Pendleton around 9:00 a.m. depending on SoCalif. traffic.  Then the fun begins!
Did we mention there WILL be yelling?????

Information for Camp

Devil Pups, please have your parents send to me their (1) e-mail address, (2) cell phone number and (3) names and addresses of those who will be attending graduation.  I need to put together a Contact Sheet in case we need to reach parents/guardians/family and, if you all agree, this can be distributed to pups' families to exchange information with respect to camp.  You can contact me by responding to the e-mails sent out today, or by calling me at 652-3998.

Devil Pup Summer Camp 2018 Training Begins

We will start training on May 12 at 7:00 a.m.  Beginning at 7:00 a.m. will eliminate some of the summer heat issues.  Training is presently scheduled to be held at Dixie State University.  If transportation will be a problem due to work schedules, please contact us and we will ask a Devil Pup mentor to help.

Location:  Dixie State University; pull into the driveway north of Hansen Stadium off of 700 East.  Look for the fitness center.

Hiking Boots for Camp

If you do not already have hiking books for Devil Pup camp, now would be a good time to get them and get them broken in.  Here is a photo of a boot that is a good camp boot – you will need protection for ankles with all the activities at camp. Watch for sales at Big 5 - don't buy heavy (combat-type) boots that won't "breathe" - they will get a lot of wear at camp. Wear them every day for two or three hours to break them in.
As for the rest of your packing, please see this list on the Devil Pup website.

2018 Devil Pups

We are starting to take applications for the 2018 Devil Pup summer camp, which will take place July 19-28, 2018 at Camp Pendleton, California.  To get your name on the list, please contact Bryce Lewis at (435) 668-9761 or e-mail Donna at dtoole (at) sunrivertoday (dot) com.  (You know how to put that in an e-mail, right??)

There will be presentations at Dixie High AFJROTC and Pine View AFJROTC in the coming weeks for those of you who are interested.  Sign-up sheets will be available.

Training will be early mornings at a location to be announced later.  Generally training is every Saturday while school is in session and three times a week after school is out.  You will need these training sessions to excel at camp.

Please keep in mind that we will train you and transport you to Southern California in July but your parents (or guardians, etc.) will need to attend graduation on the 28th to share the joy - and to take you home.  We do not provide transportation home.  Graduation from Devil Pup camp is a highlight in your life and you will want to share it with family and friends.
