Four 2014 Devil Pup graduates attended the thank you breakfast with Utah Dixie Detachment #1270 of the Marine Corps League. Here are some of the photos:
Added album on the SoUtah Devil Pups Web SiteDevil Pups is a non-profit organization designed to help teens 14-17 from all backgrounds gain self-confidence and learn to take responsibility for their actions. People wonder “Why the name Devil Pups?” The term “Devil Dogs” was used by German soldiers to describe Marines fighting in World War I. The Marines who organized this youth citizenship program chose the term “Devil Pups” to describe the quality of teen who can complete this program.

11 Oct 2014 - Marine Corps League Breakfast
Devil Pups and Families: This is a heads-up reminder for the October 11 meeting with Marine Corps League members at the Elks Lodge on October 11th. Please put this date (8:30 a.m. breakfast and 9:00 meeting) on your calendars and send Donna Toole an e-mail with the number of people who will attend so the Elks Lodge can purchase enough food for everyone. We will follow up with you next week, but please plan on this "thank you" opportunity, since the Marine Corps League in St. George is our largest Devil Pup supporter. We'd like the Pups to show up in their Devil Pup uniforms, same as awards night at the Pizza Factory.

2014-10-11 Marine Corps League Detachment Breakfast Meeting
Devil Pups, please bring your family to the Marine Corps League breakfast meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 11th, at the Elks Lodge in St. George (630 W. 1250 N.) Wear your Devil Pup uniform and be prepared to say a big thank you to the Marines in this detachment who have donated time and money to make it possible for us to send you to Devil Pup camp. Your breakfast will be provided by the Marines and you do not have to stay for the business meeting after our Devil Pup presentation. These Marines will want to know what you liked about camp, what you did not like, and if you think this experience helped you to grow and mature in any way. See you there!!
2014 Awards Night
DEVIL PUPS AWARDS NIGHT
PIZZA FACTORY, ST. GEORGE, UTAH
The
cost is $8 each for a full meal of pizza (several different flavors), salad,
bread sticks, sodas, with small children being charged less at the waitress’
discretion. As you can imagine, they would like to know how many to
expect so that they can have enough food prepared by 6:00 p.m. SO PLEASE
(everyone including Marines from the MCL detachment) RSVP to me as soon as you
know how many in your family will attend.
We
will have someone collect the money for your family at the upstairs room where
we will have the awards ceremony. That way we can pay the restaurant in
one bill at the end of the evening.
We
are aware that school is starting and things are hectic and have been able to
keep the ceremony to an hour – an hour and a half at most - during which time
you can be having dinner. If you cannot make the awards ceremony, we will
make sure we get your awards to you as soon as possible.
Devil
Pups, be prepared to state what you like most and what you liked least at Devil
Pup camp. Please wear your Devil Pup uniform.

If we get any updates from Devil Pup camp, we will post them here, but they are usually too busy to spend time reporting.

Graduation Day - August 2
Parents and Pups. Please remember that you are to meet at the reviewing stand immediately after graduation is over. Not only will you have a hard time finding your family in the crowd if you don't have a designated meeting place, but you will miss out on photo ops. Since we want lots of photos for memories, please everyone meet in front of the reviewing stand. Can't miss it - it's in the middle of the bleacher area. Last, but first in importance, Steve Handy and Col. Toole need to know that each pup has been collected by family/friends so no one is left without a ride home. No matter how tired you are, how hungry you are or how anxious to go to the beach (again), PLEASE MEET IN FRONT OF THE REVIEWING STAND immediately after graduation.

Update on Camp Supplies
Devil Pup Candidates:
We have received a memo from the LR Coordinators after their
experiences with this year’s first increment of Devil Pups. Please note the following:
Please remember to remind all your candidates regarding the
list of supplies. Many of the first
encampment Pups did not bring shower shoes, shampoo, cream rinse.
They only need one good pair of track shoes, one pair of
boots for hiking that have been broken in, and their shower shoes.
Boys are to bring shaving gear.
Contact lenses are now not allowed. Those who need glasses for vision must have
glasses with a head strap.
In the past, we had our pups take extra of various items;
however, that is not appreciated and they are not allowed to keep extra.
The cash money that they are to carry should be clearly
marked in an envelope and they place it in the left rear pants pocket.
The envelopes that are addressed and to be sent home are to
be placed in their canvas "sea bag."

8 Jul 2014 - Parents and Pup Candidate Meeting
A parents-and-pup candidates meeting will be on Tuesday (July 8) at the city library in St. George, downstairs in room B. The time is 6:30 p.m. This will be the final
“ask-questions-get-answers” meeting for the parents. Great information will be shared at this
event. Pup candidates and parents need
to attend this important meeting. We
will also be working on last-minute changes to the SRB booklets. There are lots
of little mistakes, changes and additions to these important documents.
Also, we would like the pup candidates to wear what they
think they should wear to go to camp.*
Please note that pup candidates are to wear tennies to camp, not your hiking
boots. Please also bring a combination lock and the empty bag you plan to use
for camp. Check the packing list on
the Devil Pups website or brochure.

Hiking Boots for Camp
If you do not already have hiking books for
Devil Pup camp, now would be a good time to get them and get them broken in. Here is a photo of a boot that is a good camp
boot – you will need protection for ankles with all the activities at camp. Wear them every day for two or three hours
to break them in.
